Helen Perks
Helen is a registered Nutritional Therapist who graduated from the University of West London with a Bachelor of Science in Nutritional Medicine (BSc). Helen Perks is living proof that a return to vitality and wellness is possible after a functional medicine approach to address a decades old long list of complicated health issues.
Helen’s journey to become a functional medicine practitioner has been long, but she is eager to share her personal experience, provide expert guidance and support for others wanting to end the private suffering and receive practical help.
15 years ago, Helen was working as an Internal Auditor, sometimes commuting two hours each way a day, as well as travelling across the country, studying, and juggling family commitments as a wife and a mother. Overworked, time poor, and tired, Helen like many others in this situation often sustained herself on whatever food was quick, convenient and fit into this on-the-go lifestyle – an unhealthy diet.
Helen founded The Hygeia clinic to guide and coach others with her clinical expertise to wellness. Later this year, Helen will be delivering themed-workshops about making dietary and lifestyle changes in order to help her attendees achieve their overall health goals.
Diet and lifestyle modifications combined with her clinical training are anchoring principles to coaching her clients to improve their health conditions. Helen believes that food is medicine, which supplements her nutritional training along with her observations of how other cultures value and celebrate community meals. Some of her favorite culinary adventures have been found from her travels to countries such as Italy, Germany, Spain, and Lebanon.
As part of her professional development, Helen is committed to keeping up to date with the latest research, developments in gut and hormone balancing therapy, as well as functional and lifestyle medicine as a whole. She is a member of Toastmasters International, an organisation that excels in developing its members with inspiring messages into dynamic presenters. Helen is developing lectures and workshops for companies and organisations that want to increase the strength of their community and productivity through improved health and collective culture.
Helen is delighted and honoured to have one of her recipes included in the book, ‘The Truly Epic Book of Vegpower’ . A collection of recipes and stories from other contributing celebrated chefs such as Jamie Oliver, Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall, and Michelin starred chefs, aimed at encouraging children to eat healthy. Helen is currently developing a series of children’s fun nutritional-related poems at the end of this year.
In addition, Helen loves spending time with her family. Her husband Andrew and their son James are a great team, supporting one another in their various pursuits, from triathlon races to marathon running. They all love cooking and Helen and her husband recently enjoyed their first Italian cookery course together in Tuscany.
Relaxation through yoga, meditation, a bubble bath, listening to classical music, and laughter, are key to Helen’s sense of wellbeing.
Helen nourishes her soul by combining diet, lifestyle, family fun, and having a good network of friends, with intentionally creating a positive environment in which to live and work.
It is this same intention that is at the heart of Helen’s work with The Hygeia Clinic, offering the same positive environment to support a return to vitality and health.
